


The Flamenco Studio was established in 2000 by Simone Pope as a centre for flamenco dance tuition and performance in Brisbane. Since its establishment it has become Brisbanes best known flamenco dance centre, offering regular general classes, private tuition, student performance groups, workshops, and its yearly student concerts with ¡¡Toma Flamenco!!

| Flamenco Studio Term 3 Dance Classes 2008 – Wednesday and Thursday nights Ten weeks from Wednesday 23 July Please note: There will be no classes on Wed 30th and Thurs 31st July. Class locations Wednesday and Thursday classes will be held at the Brisbane Powerhouse Stores Rehearsal Room, 119 Lamington St, New Farm. Flamenco Studio Term 3 Dance Classes 2008 – Monday and Tuesday nights Ten weeks from Monday 28 July Class locations Tuesday classes will be held at the Australian Dance Performance Institute, 31 – 33 Collingwood St, Albion. (just down from McDonalds near the Albion fiveways). Please note: Monday night classes are subject to sufficient enrolments.

Welcoming Olayo Jiménez for his only Australian workshops, and returning to Brisbane the amazing dancer and teacher Tomás Arroquero for another weekend of passionate flamenco dance workshops. Olayo Jimenéz is currently based in Barcelona and has joined the cast of Flamenco Fire especially for the 2008 season of Sol de Otoño. Olayo’s only Australian workshops – singing and compás (flamenco rhythms/ handclapping) - will be held in Brisbane and on the Sunshine Coast. This is a unique opportunity not to be missed. No experience is necessary. Olayo was born in Northern Spain into a Gypsy family of flamenco singers and dancers. For many years Olayo's highly personal vocal style and deep understanding of flamenco have combined to ensure that his talents are constantly in demand. Of his many appearances throughout Europe some of his highlights include The Royal Albert Hall (London) and The Conservatorium of Music (Rotterdam, Holland). Tomás Arroquero Brisbane workshops Currently using Seville as his base, Tomás has performed regularly with the London-based company, ‘Flamenco Express’, touring extensively in the United Kingdom. He teaches workshops throughout Europe, and has taught for longer periods as a guest teacher in both Germany and Taiwan. Tomas’ performance highlights have included the Laben Centre (Europe’s foremost contemporary dance centre), and sharing the stage at the Royal Albert Hall with flamenco great – Tomatito. Tomas first joined the cast of Flamenco Fire in 2006. Tomas’ 2007 workshops booked out quickly – don’t miss out! Based in Seville, Andrej and La Chica are in Australia performing and giving workshops over Dec and Jan in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Byron Bay.
